We are a friendly choir of approximately 130 members, founded in 1834. Under the charismatic leadership of our conductor, Benjamin Nicholas, we perform two major concerts a year interspersed with Carol Concerts, workshops and social activities. We are accompanied by professional orchestras and are fortunate to be joined in our concerts by a number of acclaimed soloists.

Accompanist

In January 2006 Jenny Rees became our accompanist and in March 2006 renowned mezzo-soprano and local resident, Sarah Connolly, joined us as President. One of Sarah's first missions is to help us to recruit more tenors and basses. If you fall into this category and would like more information click here.

'A Tenner for a Tenor'

Stroud Choral Society
is on the look out for people to sing in the tenor section and is offering a £10 discount off the annual subscription to any tenors joining before the end of September 2008.

Although the current season is already underway, it is not too late to join. Indeed the choir, who are joining forces with Stroud Symphony Orchestra for the very first time to perform Vaughan Williams ‘Sea Symphony’ in Tewkesbury Abbey in May, are only in the early stages of rehearsal. The ‘Sea Symphony’ is a dramatic work which requires a powerful sound and lots of testosterone! So if you like a challenge, come along and join us and help swell the sound!
