We are a friendly choir of approximately 130 members, founded in 1834. Under the charismatic leadership of our conductor, Benjamin Nicholas, we perform two major concerts a year interspersed with Carol Concerts, workshops and social activities. We are accompanied by professional orchestras and are fortunate to be joined in our concerts by a number of acclaimed soloists.

In January 2006 Jenny Rees became our accompanist and in March 2006 renowned mezzo-soprano and local resident, Sarah Connolly, joined us as President. One of Sarah's first missions is to help us to recruit more tenors and basses. If you fall into this category and would like more information click here.

New Musical Director required

Applications are invited for the position of Musical Director that will become vacant in November 2009. Stroud Choral Society has been at the centre of choral music in Stroud since 1834 and now provides an opportunity for well over 100 people in the Stroud Valleys to experience the joy of singing wonderful choral works. Under Ben Nicholas' talented leadership we have performed a number of very successful concerts covering a range of repertoire and often to sell-out audiences. We have also performed at the Cheltenham Music Festival and Tewkesbury Abbey, and this November will join with Monmouth Choral Society for a performance of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis at Cheltenham Town Hall.

If you are interested in the post, please explore our website to find out more about us and if you have any questions, contact us at the address below. We expect to audition the short-listed candidates in early September.
